The city
Oporto is the second biggest important city in the country and it is located in the north coast of the country, in the right bank of Douro River. It is considered by many people the capital of the North and it is located 300 km away from Lisbon, 600 km from Algarve and 50 km from Braga.

In 2012 Oporto was considered the european destination.

Climate
The climate in Oporto is mild, although it is a bit humid. The annual average temperature is 14.5 ºc.

How to arrive
You can arrive to Oporto by plane - the airport Francisco Sá Carneiro is only 11 km away from the historical city centre. If you prefer, you can come by train, since in Oporto there are 2 train stations: S. Bento e Campanhã.

World Heritage
In 1996, Oporto was declared World Heritage by UNESCO, thanks to the extraordinary beauty of its landscapes, as well as to the greatness of its monuments and to the richness of its history.

Due to all these characteristics, Oporto is one of the most visited historical cities in Portugal.

In fact, Oporto is the responsible for the name of Portugal and for the world wide appreciated Port Wine, whose production area is also a World Heritage, since 2001.

The gastronomy is very appreciated as well, essentially the following dishes: tripas à moda do Porto, francesinha and bacalhau à Gomes de Sá.

100% recomendable.

The hostel and the room are very clean. It`s just in front of the metro station. Thus transportation is very easy. The staff at reception know English, and they are very helpful.
